God's Timing
This
is a world where everybody’s in a rush. We want things and we want them now! I
am guilty of being one of those people. It is a battle everyday to be patient
and yet expectant for the things of God. Yesterday, reading Genesis, I realized
how brave and patient Noah had been. How many of us could say we would build an
ark for God and go through years of humiliation because there still wasn’t any
sight of rain. Maybe we would have gone through it for a year or two, but Noah
waited around 120 years.
God’s
timing is crucial and can be a bit frustrating to the one waiting. I’m sure
each of us has had that moment when we’re looking up into the heavens and
yelling, “Hurry it up, God!” That is a part of our nature; we have to
understand that God lives outside of time. Let’s think of God as a master
baker. When you’ve been baking a while you get a sense when your cake is done,
you go check it and usually that sense is spot on. But what if God ignores that
sense and he decides to wait a bit longer before taking out the cake? The cake
would be overcooked and unfit to eat. What if he decided to take out the cake
at the prompting of his children because they were ready to eat it? The cake
would be undercooked. Either scenario isn’t good. God doesn’t want us to miss
our chance, which is the cake being overcooked. He also doesn’t want us to get
something that we aren’t ready for, which is the undercooked cake. He goes by
his infinite knowledge. He is the master of the universe; he knows the
beginning and the end. God loves us so much that he gave up his only begotten
son, so that we may have life. Why do you think he would give you something at
the wrong time that could potentially hurt you? Many of you parents can
understand what I am saying. Many of you wouldn’t give your thirteen year old
child a thousand dollars with good sense. Why? Because they are far too
immature to handle that blessing. That is how many of the things we ask for is seen
by God. He see’s where we are in life and says, “No, she needs a little more
maturing or he needs to first forgive his father…” Sometimes God waits just so
that when he does bless you everyone around you will know of his glory and
power.
I
know this is only a small comfort to most, but God wants us to realize that his
timing isn’t to torture us. His timing is to protect us and to maximize. God
wants the best for us. He is our father and we, his children. Parents, don’t
you want the best for your children. Let’s make an effort to thank God for his
perfect timing, because without it, we would be consuming something that is
inedible.
